I have 30 years of experience as a LicensedMarriage and Family Therapist. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1972 from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. I completed a Master of Arts degree in 1980 from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). I was awarded a traineeship in a specialized intensive sign language program through the CSUN Center on Deafness. As a result, I am fluent in American Sign Language. It is always a rewarding experience for me to work effectively with members of the deaf community.

During my internship prior to licensing, a large part of my training involved working with victims of childhood trauma, especially those who had been sexually abused. Related to this type of abuse, I provided treatment for Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA). In addition to working with the general public, I gained valuable experience as a case manager for an agency that provided a wide range of services for developmentally disabled individuals and their families. One other facet of my early training included fieldwork at a local hospice working with people facing life threatening illness. My experiences with dying patients and their families gave me powerful insights into coping with loss and grief. I find that this work still helps me with clients today.  These varied experiences allow me to work successfully with individuals, couples, and families in healing early wounds and enhancing the quality of their relationships. I am also a kidney transplant recipient and help clients with kidney disease issues, as well as chronic illness.

Over 20 years ago I became involved in the emerging  Men's Movement. I  spent considerable time interacting with male mentors such as Robert Bly, Michael Meade, and John Lee. I believe these experiences have enriched what I bring to my work with men. They have in fact brought me to become a leader in Men's Work, offering seminars and weekend retreats. During these weekends, I find that skills acquired as a Colorado Outward Bound School graduate allow me to offer powerful experiential learning opportunities for the men who participate.

More recently, I have developed a specialty of working with men who are struggling with sexual addiction. Men in growing numbers are finding themselves addicted to Internet pornography in its various forms. I have found it very rewarding helping them regain their lives and integrity. I also bring to my practice clinical experience working with employees of large organizations. This includes providing EAP counseling services for the U.S. Postal Service and being a consultant for Chevron USA on their offshore oil platforms. I was able to help employees of both these organizations develop skills for coping with stress and change.

In the last few years, I have furthered my work in helping my clients recover from trauma by using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy). I have been trained by the EMDR Institute and am a certified practitioner.

I am a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). I am also a member of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA). I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP)

It is my hope that sharing some of my clinical experiences has been helpful for you in deciding if I am the therapist who will meet your needs. I welcome any questions you might have for me, either by e-mail or phone. You may do so now, by clicking this link:  CONTACT PAGE
